Sloppy Joes ~ REVAMPED!

Who remembers having Sloppy Joes or Manwiches as a kid?! Ok, now who remembers Adam Sandler’s Lunch Lady song from SNL?!

Due to SNL’s copyright I couldn’t find the original video with Chris Farley, but you get the gist.

I can never say “sloppy joes” without singing it in an Adam Sandler voice. Sloppy joe, slop, sloppy joe, yeah!

Sloppy Joes are undoubtedly the messiest sandwich to eat ever.  I don’t even know why they call it a sandwich, you totally have to eat it with a knife and fork, but that’s what makes eating one so fun – you basically have no choice but to be sloppy and get it all over your face.

Sure it’s easy to buy the canned sauce or pre-packaged mix, but it’s surprisingly quick (and so much better for you!) to make your own sauce free of glucose-fructose and corn syrup – which is just a fancy way of saying high fructose corn syrup.Hunts Manwich Ingredients This dinner takes no time to whip up.  You can be feeding hungry mouths in less than 30 minutes! Serves 4

1 lb lean ground beef
1/2 white onion, diced
1/2 red or green bell pepper, diced
3 cloves garlic, minced
1/2 cup organic, low-sugar ketchup
1/2 cup water
1/2 Tbsp Swerve or stevia*
1 tsp molasses*
1 tsp chili powder
1/2 tsp dry mustard
1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
Few shakes of Tabasco sauce (more or less depending on how spicy you like it)
S&P

*Can substitute the stevia and molasses for 1-2 Tbsp of brown sugar.

Brown ground beef in a large frying pan or skillet.  In a small bowl, mix together water and ketchup until combined.  Once beef is browned, add onions, peppers, garlic, and ketchup/water.  Stir well.Sloppy Joes 4Add remaining ingredients, stir, cover, reduce heat to low and simmer for 20 minutes.

Remove from heat and serve on your favourite bun. To keep things low-carb, I used a keto bun from the Keto Diet Blog.  I make a big batch of these buns and freeze them.  They taste just as good thawed as fresh from the oven!Sloppy Joes 2Enjoy – and remember, it’s OK to be “sloppy”!Sloppy Joes

    Girl, you KNOW my tongue is hanging out of my mouth right now!!!! YUMMM!

    But so NOT YUM to that HUNTS crap!! I don’t understand why companies feel the need to add sugar to EVERYTHING!

      Seriously though! I don’t get all the added sugar either….SO not necessary. Grrrr!!
