DietBet Game Wrap Up and Results

Image-1Hi all! Sorry, I’ve been a bit lacking on posts lately. I was doing a cleanse the last few days and haven’t really been cooking much but I’m back in the saddle now.  So, here I am with the results of our DietBet Game.  The pot grew to $11,900!!!  Our group of 467 players lost a total of 3,041 pounds, that’s an average of 7 pounds per person. Wow!!! 265 made their 4% goal and were paid out $33.68, not too shabby for a $25 buy in.  I, unfortunately didn’t make mine 🙁 I was 0.5 pounds away from the goal.  But I did lose just over 4 pounds, which is that much closer to my weight last summer.  Yay! I definitely feel less bloated and more toned.  Any loss is a WIN, right!?!?  A lot of my friends and family had great success. I’m so proud of them and everyone!

This was my first time hosting and playing a DietBet Game and I really enjoyed it! If you’re not familiar with DietBet I’ll give you a quick rundown. Basically you bet a dollar amount determined by the host (usually $25) to lose 4% of your body weight in 4 weeks (there are also 6 month games where you have to lose 10%).  There is no ONE winner. Everyone who meets the 4% goal splits the pot!  It’s a lot of fun and a great way to e-meet and chat with people from all over!  It’s awesome having a cheering section supporting you every step of the way.

I asked my players for feedback on their experience.  This is what they had to say…

“This is the first one I did and I am not a joiner so it was purely for maintaining the motivational factor and guess what, it worked.”

“I loved the game, my first one and although I may not win! It really helped me and encouraged me to push on!!”

“Dietbetting is hard. Losing the weight is hard. But this has been the ONLY thing that has kept me motivated, month after month, to fight this battle! I love, love, love it!!!!!!!!!!”

“…most definitely the only thing that has kept me motivated to do my best with sticking to the eating better and working out…It hasn’t helped me lose weight but I have learned more about trying to and exercise in the process.”

“I didn’t do very well. But I am going to keep trying.”

“I would absolutely do it again!!”

Thank you Myra.  My weight loss journey is at the beginning stages but you have motivated me to keep going.  A healthy new me is all I am after 🙂

Thanks so much Myra for hosting this game. You did an awesome job!!!! Many celebrity Diet Bet hosts just seem to start their games and then you never hear another word from them the entire time. And after doing 38 Diet Bet games…I definitely speak from experience. You ROCK big time!!!!

Here is my personal opinion on my DietBet experience both as a host and player.  All in all, I think it is a great motivator and you get all kinds of supportive from wonderful people.  4% for me was 4.9 lbs, I lost 4.4 lbs – so close!  In my last weight loss journey, I drastically changed my eating habits, going gluten-free and dairy-free, increased my workouts and was losing about 0.5-1 lbs a week for a total of about 17 lbs in 5 months.  This time, my goal was to lose the few pounds I gained over the winter so I could fit into my summer clothes!!  I started the game already eating a pretty clean diet and weight training more (last time I did a lot more cardio and very little weight training), so I know I gained some muscle.  And personally, losing a pound a week is good enough for me as I’m a SLOW loser.  So all in all, I’m happy with my results.

My only negative feedback was the way players (including me!!) were obsessively weighing themselves. DietBet even sends out emails reminding you to weigh-in every few days.  I am so up and down with my weight day-to-day that I don’t like to weigh myself any more than once a week. But because I’m a competitive person, I was literally weighing myself every day.  People on the forum were even weighing in the very next day after the game started! I just don’t like to promote jumping on the scale that frequently.  I think it could lead to crash dieting or binging and purging near the end just to meet your goal.  You need to go into the game knowing that it is just for fun, you may not win your money back but you have a 99% chance of losing some weight – which is a good thing! And it motives most people to keep on track and continue eating right and exercising.

I also really enjoyed being a host.  It was fun and interactive; I only wish I was on the forum a bit more chatting with everyone.  The forums were a great place to talk about your goals and set backs.  I will definitely host another game in the near future!

So there you have it! I think it was a great success and I hope to see you all again in my next DietBet Game 🙂
