The last time we went away one of my husband’s co-workers watched our dog, Paco. She loves dogs and knew he would be
well looked after spoiled! This rang true when he came home with a bag of homemade doggie treats and a note saying “Paco convinced me to make him some cookies.” Yeah, I get it. How can you say no to this face??
We’ve always fed him all-natural dog food (we use First Mate Chicken and Blueberry) and treats (he loves Zuke’s Mini Naturals in Peanut Butter) and while nothing is too good for my baby, all-natural premium brands can get quite pricey! So, I was happy that she gave the recipe to me 🙂 By the way, I did personally try them – they’re all natural ingredients, don’t judge! They weren’t that bad! They were just a tad bland since there is zero sugar added to them, I could see myself tweaking the recipe into a breakfast cookie. All that mattered is that Paco loved them…
Makes 80 bite sized cookies
This recipe can be halved, or you can freeze them
2 1/2 cups whole wheat flour (or oat flour if your dog is sensitive to wheat)
1/2 cup 100% pure pumpkin puree
1/2 cup natural peanut butter
2 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 cup water as needed
Preheat oven to 350F. Combine all the ingredients in a bowl and mix well. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and spoon cookies onto the baking sheet. Since I have a small dog, I made these bite sized, but feel free to make them bigger for larger dogs. Bake in oven for about 15 minutes (check after 12 minutes to ensure they don’t burn!) Remove from oven and let cool. Store in an air tight container in the fridge or freeze for later use.
Test out on your furry friend. As you can see from the pictures, Paco approves!
Oh, and I apologize if I’m lacking in posts the next week or so, we have my husband’s parents visiting us from the east coast!! I’ll be sure to fill you in on our adventures 🙂
